NEW MEMBER INFORMATION
Welcome to Rocky Outrigger Canoe Club. We are stoked you have decided to try the wonderful sport of outrigging with Rocky Outrigger Canoe Club. Outrigging is a great sport for overall fitness and exercise, fun, team work, and meeting new friends. The Rocky Outrigger Canoe Club is a non-for-profit club promoting the sport of outrigging and team work in the community.
ABOUT OUTRIGGING…
Here is a little background information about outrigging for you:
Outrigging originated in Micronesia and Polynesia - and is one of the oldest water sports in the world.
What commenced as a mode of transport between islands has become a team sport of fitness and endurance.
In Hawaii - the traditional wooden 'KOA' canoes are still made and raced.
There are 2 official outrigger canoe racing zones in Queensland: NQZ and SQZ, which have a grand prix circuit. These regattas are held under the conditions and rules laid down by the sports national governing body, AOCRA.
Regattas during the year include:
- OC6 Grand Prix Regattas
- OC1 Regattas such as the Wai Puhi
- Major outrigging events outside the AOCRA circuit including the Hamilton Island Cup and Gold Coast Cup
- Fun Regattas

HOW CAN I JOIN ROCKY OUTRIGGERS?...
To join Rocky Outrigger Canoe Club Download : Membership Form : Indemnity Form : Medical Declaration Form
* note: All Rocky Outrigger Canoe Club members need to be members of Emu Park Surf Life Saving Club. This is because the weekend location for training is at their clubhouse at Emu Park. This enables us to use the facilities and have hot showers after training. This means we can also leave training canoes at the beach rather than towing them back and forth every weekend.
** note: due to insurance purposes – all members must pay membership fees in full and submit all relevant membership forms to the club secretary before paddling/training on the water in 2007. If you have not paid your fees in full, you will not be allowed to train with the club equipment. This is for insurance and safety purposes. Please see club secretary Karen to submit membership forms and payment of fees. |
